Qu'est ce qu'un backapcker ? [what's a backpacker ?]

Quand on voyage un peu en mode "économique", ou en Working Holiday Visa (Visa Travail Vacances), on voit beaucoup ce mot "backpacker".
Sur les forums, les groupes facebook, en recharchant des auberges de jeunesse (backpacker hostel),...

1erement, la traduction.

En anglais, "backpack" signifie "sac a dos". Donc, "backpacker" signifie littéralement "porteur de sac a dos". En général, les voyageurs se déplacent avec leurs affaires dans un sac a dos (beaucoup plus pratique qu'une valise parfois). L'intégralité des affaires étant dans le sac, ca peut peser jusqu'a 20 kilos, voire plus !

2ement, le symbole.

Tout dépend du pays, je pense,

J'ai commence mon voyage en Australie, royaume du backpacker. Tout est prêt pour lui : le visa, les auberges, les jobs, les groupes,... (ceci ne veut pas dire que c'est facile pour autant !).
Le backpacker est vu comme un immigrant, travaillant pour pas cher, mais assez fainéant, la tête dans les étoiles (ou dans l'alcool). Normalement venu pour voyager, il va se recréer une vie et une routine pour voyager ensuite (en Asie la plupart du temps).

Selon la nationalité, le jugement change. 

Les irlandais sont les fêtards, les anglais sont les dégeulasses, les italiens sont pizzaiolis et vendent de la beuh, ... et les francais sont des voleurs bruyants.

En Asie (où je n'ai pas vraiment voyager mais mon cheri oui), les backpackers sont plus des "vrais" voyageurs. Ils ne sont que de passage, l'entraide entre les voyageurs et le respect avec les locaux est super important.

Evidemment, tout ceci est une généralité un peu grossière... Je ne me vois ainsi, mais c'est comme ca qu'est vu le backpacker.

Pour moi, un backpacker est quelqu'un qui a sa maison sur son dos et le coeur ouvert à toute aventure.

"Backpacker" is the one who is caring his backpack. In general, the travelers are with all their stuffs inside, so it can weight around 20 kilos.

2nd : the symbol

I think it change depends of the country.

I started my trip by Australia, the backpacker's kingdom. Everything is ready for him : the visa, the jobs, the hostels, the groups,... (doesn't mean it's easy tho).
The backpacker is judges like a migrant, working cheap, a little lazy, with the head in the cloud (or in the alcohol,...). He cames for traveling, but at the end he's settle and will go traveling later in Asia,
The judgement change also depending on the nationality. Irish are the party, English the dirty (litteraly), Italian are making pizza and sell weed,... and French are the noisy thieves.

In Asia (i didn't had the chance to travel much but my boyfriend did), backpackers are more "real" travelers. They are moving, help each other and respect the locals are very important,

Obviously, all of this is not the completely true and is full of "prejuges". I dont consider myself like that, but it's how a lot of people think of the backpacker.

For me, a backpacker is someone who have his home on his back and the heart open for the adventure.
